About
Dr. Mulligan brings a distinguished career spanning over 15 years in academia, preceded by her impactful work as a school psychologist in Pennsylvania’s public school system. Her scholarly contributions encompass a diverse array of subjects, including selective mutism, sexually harmful behaviors in youth, executive functioning, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and the adverse effects of excessive media device usage. Her research interests further extend to evidence-based reading interventions, social justice, student outcomes, and social-emotional learning (SEL) programs.
In 2024, Dr. Mulligan published her first edited volume, The Handbook of Cognitive Behavior Group Therapy for Children and Adolescents, a comprehensive resource advancing the field of CBT. Her excellence as an educator was recognized in 2017 when she received the prestigious David Newton Award for Excellence in Teaching at Long Island University, highlighting her exceptional ability to engage students, deliver content effectively, and employ innovative pedagogy.
Currently, Dr. Mulligan serves as a full-time Assistant Professor in the School Psychology program at the Derner School of Psychology, Adelphi University. Her approach to working with children emphasizes building strong rapport, fostering collaboration to understand individual needs, and teaching targeted skills to enhance underdeveloped executive functions. Her commitment to evidence-based practices and her dedication to supporting children’s growth continue to guide her professional endeavors.
